 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Gidu Sriram


Gidu Sriram grew up in Bombay and Madras and has been a resident of Portland, Oregon since March 1984. Gidu is passionate about all forms of fine arts and has been an avid supporter of many cultural forums that exist in Portland today, serving on the Board of a few Indian American cultural organizations. Gidu has also played an active role in raising funds for many charitable causes. Gidu considers the community as an extension of his family and has captured numerous memories for the community with his photos and videos. He is an IT Director of a leading global manufacturer of Forklift Trucks.

Smitha  Chakravarthy

Madhurasmitha (Smitha) Chakravarthy, grew up across multiple cities in India, imbibing many cultures and languages, and has been a resident of Portland, OR since 2003. A musician and composer, Smitha continues to volunteer @ Portland Balaji Temple as a music teacher for the the last 10+ years, with over 60 students. Her command over multiple Indian languages (Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Sanskrit and Hindi),  and her in-depth training in music and dance enables her to provide holistic art education to her students. Smitha is also a sought after MC for cultural events in Portland. 

She holds a Master of Computer Science degree from Portland State University, and is a Sr. Director @ Intel Corp. When she is not at work, Smitha likes to spend time with her family, garden and cook varied cuisines.

Thimmappa Anekonda

Thimmappa grew up in a small agrarian village near Davangere, got married to his beautiful wife Nalini in 1987, and moved to California the same year for higher studies. Nalini became a software engineer and he pursued a science career. After serving as a research professor at OSU and OHSU for over two decades, he became an entrepreneur. 

Thimmappa's son Vishwanath is pursuing residency in internal medicine and daughter Sima works for a labor union defending the rights of OHSU hospital workers. His family commitment to social justice is personal. They made it a point to promote educational and humanitarian goals of individuals, communities, and institutions  throughout their adult lives.

He loves gardening, jogging, and writing Kannada poems.

 CORE TEAM

President: Padmashri Gargesa

Padmashri loves to work with like-minded volunteers towards causes that impact the world starting from making a difference in the community. She has lived in Portland, Oregon for over 15 years. She holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and works in the Technology Industry. 

Secretary: Satheesh Sankappa


Satheesh has avid interest in community service and has been involved in volunteer work at various non-profit organizations for the past 10+ years. 

Satheesh migrated to United States 15 years ago and has been living in Portland for 12+ years. He holds an Engineering degree and works in Information Technology.

Finance & Treasury: Som Perla

Venkata Rama Someswara Rao Perla (alias Som Perla) hails from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. Som was actively involved in many social causes in his tenure at Wipro by contributing to Wipro cares (Azim Premji foundation).  He was actively involved in helping people suffering from critical health issues or medical conditions by supporting them at that time of need. He has also helped in the rebuilding of temples across India that needed financial assistance for improvement and renovation projects.

Som stood all India 16th rank in the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India and holds an associate membership in The Institutes of Cost Accountants of India. He had started his career with a “Navaratna” Public sector company of India. In his 25 years of professional experience, he has travelled the globe on various consulting engagements. His first assignment in the US was in the year 2003 and he came to Portland, Oregon in 2017. 

Public relations:  Saravana Sevugapandian

Saravana comes from a rural village Muhavoor in Tamilnadu, India. Presently, he lives in North Bethany with his wife Uma and two children Rudran and Aadhini. As a son of a farmer, Saravana has special interest in Organic Farming. Saravana enjoys spending time with his family, reading books on sociology, world history, politics, volunteering, and practicing and coaching traditional Tamil martial art, Silambam. He is thrilled to be part of HSNA and looking forward to serving the organization and community!


Volunteer: Ramesh Segavalu Ananthaiah 

Truly believes and lives by the principle of "producing more than you consume and giving more than what we take". Ramesh hails from Bengaluru in Karnataka, India. He is from a family of 3 Generations of Swayamsevaks "Self less volunteers". He is passionate about helping anyone in need. He first came to US in 2002 and to Portland in 2013, since then he has been living and commuting for his consultancy work from PDX. He is passionate about music and creative thinking, he enjoys hosting musical events, fund raisers and raising the bar each and every time. He holds Masters degree in Computer Applications along with that he is certified management consultant and currently working for a tech firm. 

INITIATIVE LEADERS

Website Consultant: Girish Deshpande

Girish hails from Vijayapura in Karnataka, India. He first came to Portland, OR on the new year eve of 2016. He is passionate about technology and sports. He is committed to volunteering in community work focused on technology and education.

He holds an engineering degree and currently works in Information Technology. 

Health & Well-Being: Pavan Vishwanath

As Mahatma Gandhiji said "Be the change you want to see in the World", Pavan believes in helping the community. He strives to make world a better place to live, where we help each other to support humanity. He has been living in Portland since Oct 2018. He has a young family with supportive wife and two beautiful kids. He is a serious runner, biker and hiker. His goal is to run 1,000km per year and has been successfully achieving this goal for last 6 years. His fitness journey also started as a baby step and he believes everybody can be physically active and lead a healthy lifestyle. 

Health & Well-Being: Suraj Nadig

Suraj is an avid sports enthusiast who believes in “Healthy body is a Healthy mind”.  He recently moved to Portland and works for an IT company in healthcare space. With a constant thought to encourage and motivate people around, he has conducted many sport events and Fitness challenges. He enjoys outdoors - running , biking and hiking and plays cricket, soccer , tennis and badminton. He likes to spend time with his daughter at kids playground. Once in a while likes to challenge himself and has done so far 2- 50k Ultra marathon at Malnad Ultra and a self supported solo bike ride covering 200kms. 

Family Support: Shaila Mudigonda

Shaila is very involved and interested in social service and community activities since childhood. She is residing in the US for the past 20+ years and holds Masters degree in CS. Shaila has been involved in various volunteering organizations over this period in San Jose and in Portland. 

Women/Girl Empowerment: Shubhashini Manyam

We are happy when everyone around us are happy' is what Subha believes in. Long term resident of Beaverton OR, has been actively giving back to the community personally and through various organizations across US and India. Holding hands with rest of the leads, Subha wants to bring help where needed. Subha is an IT engineer by profession. 

Women/Girl Empowerment: Siri Malladi

A long term resident of Portland who is passionate about serving the community. She has served the local non-profit 'Greater Portland Telugu Association' in varied roles such as Volunteer, Cultural Secretary, Secretary and is currently the President. She is a life time member & past board member of national non-profit 'Swaravedika'. A Software Engineer & Scrum Master by profession, Siri enjoys organizing events, learning languages, singing, dancing, hiking, walking, watching movies and spending time with her two daughters. Siri strongly believes that there is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise! She looks forward to co-leading this vital initiative and doing her part with sincerity, in making the world a better place for women and girls! 

Cultural & Creativity: Anagha Jamadagni

Culture defines personality. Culture develops personality. Culture brings together multiple personalities. Anagha hails from Bangalore and moved to Portland in Jan 2016. She resides here with her husband and two lovely daughters. Software engineer by profession, organizing events, dancing and emceeing are her passion and has volunteered in many roles in these areas. She loves to serve the community by creating culture as a platform to bring people together and to help the needy. 

Education: Umesh Navada

U. N. Umesh is the education co-lead for HSNA. Unlike a mere gift to the needy, education requires active participation and effort of the recipient.  Hence, imparting education to someone provides lasting value to the individual who may become a better person with stronger motivation. He has a B-Tech from IIT Madras, but has limited skills on downloading, uploading, databases, etc. Luckily, he is able to use his skills as a Professor of Marketing to convince the numerous technically qualified IT professionals in the Portland area to assist in educational applications. He is a Board Member of UVCares, a nonprofit that helps with mental assistance to the indigent population in the Wenatchee area. He teaches at Washington State University but has also taught at Wharton, UW, UT Austin, etc. He recently moved to Brig Switzerland for the Fall term where he is able to interact with students from all over the world as well as go up mountains in the Alps.

Education:  Lavanya Kumaran

Lavanya is a Tamil Nadu native, she has lived in the US Portland area for the last 7years. She is a graduate of Anna University where she received a Master Degree in Medical Electronics. Teaching has always been her passion form childhood. She has been working as Assistant Professor for more than 10 years in engineering colleges at Chennai. Over the last few years she has really enjoyed focusing on her art and teaching. Lavanya teaches the Tamil language to students from US and Canada as well as Art.  She is currently working as substitute teacher in Beaverton school district, secretary of Zhagaram foundation and Portland Kalai Kuzhu.  It is a pleasure to work within our community and to continue to bring Art and language to these students. 

Environment: Shashi Kumar


Shashi is resident of Oregon from past 3 years, during his first visit to Portland, he fell in love with diverse Oregon vegetation and decided to move to Oregon. Since then he is actively involved in Go Green initiative like planting trees and Adopt trail program. He enjoy hiking and biking in woods and hopes to keep the natural beauty of nature to the future generation.

Youth Club: Deepa Chetty

Deepa is a long term resident in the Portland area for over 16 years. Curious about life and different aspects of it, she is a life-long learner and loves to live a fulfilled life along with her family and community, serving the community is a big part of it. Her interests include connecting with people, holistic approach to health and well being, marathons and ultra marathons, dance, creative work, gardening and movies, to name a few. 

Youth Club: Prashanth Nair

Prashanth Nair is a resident of Portland area since 2010. Him along with his family have been contributing to various non profit organizations in India and the US.

He works as a IT Manager in a semiconductor manufacturing company and is thankful for the opportunity to lead the youth club for HSNA along with Deepa Chetty. Looking forward for a wonderful journey serving our community.  

Food & Nutrition: Chandan Kundapur

We may not  be able to change the world. But we can try and make a world of difference to those in need around us. Chandan passionately believes in giving back to the community around us and also back home in India. Chandan moved to Portland, Oregon about 6 years ago. He holds an MBA and works in the Cyber Security Space. 

Food & Nutrition: Atul Shah

Atul is a resident of Portland for ~20 years. He has been participating in various community activities with non-profit orgranizations across US and in India. He holds a Masters Degree in EE and works in the field of semiconductor devices.  He is a firm believer in the quote from Mother Teresa:  "If you can't feed a hundered people, feed just one!" 

Animal Welfare: Akhil Sharma

Akhil Sharma has been living in United States since 2007. He has worked with several non-profit organizations in various capacities such as a volunteer, board member and event organizer in the past. He has a passion to make things around him better  to bring a positive change and has deep interest in community service. 

He is an engineer by profession, holds engineering and technology degrees from multiple institutions and currently working in techinal management roles. 

Animal Welfare: Ravindra Harish

Ravindra Harish, after living in the US for 11 years has now returned to his home country. He has been an integral part of various volunteering initiatives in Portland, Oregon.

A good pet lover and owner of cat carries a deep passion for animals and its welfare. He looks forward to execute animal welfare programs at India in collobration with the team at US.

By profession, Ravindra is a masters holders and works as a engineering leader for one of the leading apperal company.
